MusicTalk playlist 27.06.2014

There are pretty much two songs that I am currently listening to right now, both happy easy going songs, I can't believe I haven't written about these songs earlier since everyone around me is pretty much sick of these songs since I pretty much put them on repeat... I totally love these songs.

MusicTalk - REVIEW - Mariah Carey - Me, I Am Mariah... The Elusive Chanteuse

For those of you who are interested in listening to +Mariah Carey's new album, you can stream the whole album through iTunes Radio's First Play!

Me, I Am Mariah... The Elusive Chanteuse is Mariah's 13th studio album, her first since 2010, when she released her 2nd Christmas album, entitled Merry Christmas II You.

Her last album Memoirs of an Imperfect Angel, spawned 1 Top 10 hit, "Obsessed".  While albums aren't necessarily gauged by the number of hits, there has to be songs which speak to her audience.  One my favorite Mariah's songs is "Breakdown" which failed to crack the Billboard charts - unless you count the dual single release with My All.

So,what does her new album, "Me, I Am Mariah... The Elusive Chanteuse" sounds like?  Since a lot has happened since her last studio album - namely her twins and American Idol.

To summarize this album, I ask you to listen to "One More Try," a George Michael original.  While she adds her trademark whistle tones in the last minute of the song, overall it sounds uninspired.

This is rather unfortunate as even the songs dedicated to her twins, "Supernatural" lack both the vocal prowess and the musical theatricality that is Mariah.  Yes, you can argue that she doesn't have to whistle note ever song, but there are other aspects being highlighted, the beats or the message.

After listening to the entire album twice, I do not feel an emotional connection to this album, nor any of the songs in particular.

I can't recommend this album as it sounds like an album that came out between Rainbow and Charmbracelet.

2/5 stars.

Love you Mariah, but this album has lost the diva I've come to know and love.

MusicTalk - playlist 30.april.2014 - The Donnas, Garbage

This week, we're rock, rock pop, grunge (ish) kinda mood...

I love this song by the Donnas... Take it off...

I recall this song by Veruca Salt back in 97 or 98? It was in high school... ha ha

You pretend you're high...
You pretend you're bored...
JUST to be adored...

MusicTalk - iTunes Music Reviews - Downright Useless

I used to just buy music through iTunes, but they're a bit overpriced especially when it comes to albums.  Anyways... here to walk about useless reviews.

While I am curious about the new Michael Jackson album, I'm really F***ing surprised that there was already 246 reviews.  The album doesn't even have a tracklist or a snippet to listen to.  Ummm... release date May 13, 2014.  Seriously iTunes, get your sh*t together, why not close reviews until the album is released, have a review tab for critics who have early access.

Just my $0.02.

MusicTalk - Current Playlist - jan.10.2014

This 1st song came out back in 2012 (lol like it was so long ago), but I'm currently listening to it on repeat again - partly because I do like thrift shops and also part of my new year's resolution not to buy anything new this year... hahaha... NOPE.. this year - secondhands, thiftshops, craigslist and refurbished!

Not to mention the beat!

This is 1 of 2 favorite songs I have from Beyonce's new album - entitled Beyonce.
The first part of the audio is here, but official video nor audio has been released for public consumption (you can listen up to the first 1:30, after that - it didn't made the album).

The song is called Flawless and its just fierce and its a feminist song.

Yuna - I want you back...
I first wrote about Yuna back in 2012 (click here), she is just a cool artists without all the pretentiousness of most modern pop music today.  Chill, cool, relaxing, Yuna rocks.

This song reminds me so much of Hawaii. Just a moment of my life...
You have stolen my heart...

I'm Amazing. Ah ah AMAZING

Some people may judge me based on my skin color.

Some people may judge me based on my sexual orientation.

Some people may judge me based on my clothes.

To be honest, I don't give a shit.

I've been doing me for quite some time and I'm comfortable in my own skin.

I'm Amazing. AH AH Amazing.

MusicTalk - Rebecca Black - Saturday (and Friday)

Over two years ago, Rebecca published a video entitled Friday.

It sort of became a pop phenomenon.  Many people said it was just terrible, beyond terrible.  However, it has become viral spawning many different covers.

Personally, after listening to the song for the first time, I was like WTF.  Then after a 2nd or third listen, its a harmless pop song that became people's guilty pleasure.

Now, here we are with her new song, Saturday.  This song with Dave Days, bring a new melody, a techno-pop feel which compliments Rebecca's voice quite well.

Who knows, maybe this was the master plan all along.  Go viral and release pop music.

What's up next for Rebecca?  If you said Sunday, give her more credit.
You're listening and watching her videos.

MusicTalk - Current Playlist - nov.30

After streaming Britney Spears' new album (which please don't), I'm a bit over the pop movement.

Listening to one of my favorite songs, "The Kill" by 30 Seconds to Mars - a bit of an oldie, but still great.

One of my favorite bands of all time is Matchbox 20.  They have so many great songs and this is one of their great ones.

MusicTalk - Current Playlist - nov.20

Here's two of my two fave songs for the week.

Hurtful by Erik Hassle

This is a song, I've been listening for about 3-4 years?! I love the lyrics and the sound of his voice.

LYRICS below.

I used to laugh it off
I used to look the other way
I used to save them troubles for another day
I kept my fingers crossed
I used to never take the blame
I'd pull a sunshine story in a pouring rain
The more I had to change I'd just stay the same

(The same, the same, I stayed the same)

You don't know what you got till you're missing it a lot
I had to go throw it away
I was wrong from the start from the bottom of my heart I apologize
What I did to you was hurtful
What I'm going through is hurtful

I used to bide my time
I used to beat around the bush
I'd rather give my ego another push
I used to be a fool
It was a foolish game I played
And it's a fool's fate counting mistakes I've made
Once I had it right it was all too late

(Too late, too late, too little too late)

Dream - Priscilla Ahn

This song is just precious - the tone of her voice is angelic and mesmerizing.
This is another older song, maybe 4-5 years old.  Still one of my favorites.

Check out the older playlists.

MusicTalk - Current Playlist nov.09

This week, I am listening to two songs from 2 great vocalists: Christina Aguilera and Carrie Underwood.
I've been quite down the last couple of weeks, and I guess the music here reflects that.  Sorry for the ballads and sad songs, but they are great songs, nonetheless.

This first song was originally recorded by A Great Big World, but in this version they are accompanied by the incomparable Christina Aguilera.

Here are the lyrics...

Say something, I'm giving up on you.
I'll be the one, if you want me to.
Anywhere, I would've followed you.
Say something, I'm giving up on you.

And I am feeling so small.
It was over my head
I know nothing at all.

And I will stumble and fall.
I'm still learning to love
Just starting to crawl.

Say something, I'm giving up on you.
I'm sorry that I couldn't get to you.
Anywhere, I would've followed you.
Say something, I'm giving up on you.

And I will swallow my pride.
You're the one that I love
And I'm saying goodbye.

Say something, I'm giving up on you.
And I'm sorry that I couldn't get to you.
And anywhere, I would have followed you.
Oh-oh-oh-oh say something, I'm giving up on you.

Say something, I'm giving up on you.

Say something...

This next song, is by one of my favorite country artists, Carrie Underwood.  I love all of her albums and this particular song highlights her great vocal ability.  In this song, she sings with the original artist who recorded the song, Randy Travis.

MusicTalk - Britney Spears - #WORKBXXCH - A Review

Work B**ch is the lead single for Britney's new album coming out in later this year.

Why is this so important?  Well, for multitude of reasons, actually.  First, in regards to pop culture, Britney has been regarded as a lead icon for quite some time.  However, with recent mishaps, lackluster album sales, lack of impact in the pop culture (in comparison to Beyoncé, Lady Gaga, Katy Perry and recently Miley Cyrus), I am glad to say its #britneyb**ch back on top.

Her recent album, Femme Fatale is her least selling album which is her only album not to sell over 1 million copies, but the album did spawn 3 top 10 singles: Hold it Against me, Till the World Ends, and I Wanna Go.

If you haven't seen Work B**ch, scroll below and watch the video.  While I feel that the choreography doesn't completely highlight Britney's abilities, it does go a good job of dismissing all the critiques, Britney is back, and you'll see a great show in Las Vegas.  Britney recently signed a deal with Planet Hollywood and will be performing shows there for the next 2 years starting this December.

This video is great.  Great imagery, over the top cinematography from the dancing in the middle of the dessert (a la Beyoncé in Baby Boy), singing in the middle of an enormous pool with CGI sharks I'm assuming.  Also, what I love are the images with the women.  The play on domineering woman by Britney with whips shows that she is ready to take charge.  Basically, the image with Britney at the top of an inverted pyramid is her stamp on the Diva crown.  She is back on the top of her game.

Some of you may not agree that her work is great, but what she is selling here is her brand, her image.  Britney is 100% fit, look at those abs vs. Gimme More performance at MTV VMAs; in addition to the abs, she is dancing well, great costume changes, a good upbeat song, which I am ready to go clubbing to at any time or run some sprints.

Welcome back Britney Spears.  You better Work B**ch.

MusicTalk - Summer Playlist 2013

This summer, in addition to reading a lot of books (CLICK HERE)... I also listened to a lot of music.  Believe me flying from Europe to Hawaii and vice versa, you can read a book or two, watch a movie or 5, listen to the entire Elton John collection and even have time to knit a sweater.

My summer playlist included pop music, a little of rock and even some... well I'll you be the judge...

Tonight I'm Getting Over You - Carly Ray Jepsen

I like this song even more than Call Me Maybe. It sort of speaks to my status of being single this summer, this past year, well pretty much the past decade.

Summertime sadness - Lana Del Rey vs. Cedric Gervais Remix

I probably listened to this song over 100 times this summer.  This was #1 in my running mix, so I've listen to this song all over the world!  PS. If you're on RunKeeper - add me hawaiiinsomniac.

Clarity - Zedd

I really love the lyrics to the song.  Another great running song (maybe at 2/3 of your run).

Beauty and the Beat - Justin Bieber ft. Nicki Minaj

Say what you want about Justin Bieber, but this is a great summer song - along with a great pop video!

Take Care - Drake Ft. Rihanna

SONGS THAT YOU PROBABLY NEVER HEARD OF...

Live Like That - Sidewalk Prophets

I wanna live like that and give it all I have.
Your love is who I am, and this is where I stand.
Recklessly abandoned, never holding back - I wanna like like that.

Just a Fool - Christina Aguilera ft. Blake Shelton

This song was never released as a single, but this is one of my favorite songs on her recent, underrated album, "Lotus".

Enjoy - What did you listen to this summer?!

MusicTalk - Stream "The Diving Board" Elton John's new album!

There isn't too many artists out there in which I would pay for to see a concert or an album.

Well, of those individuals happens to be Elton John, who coincidentally, performed the last concert I saw in person in Hawaii.  He played for 3 hours, no back up singers, just him and his piano.

Wow.

Well, he has a new album out and I can tell you it is different than ANYTHING you are listening to the radio now.  I'm not quite sure I like it yet, I'm going to stream the whole album again.

This is worldwide - so share this blog with your friends!

Thanks to Amazon and Elton John for giving us this opportunity!

MusicTalk - Country Music

I decided to write a blog with my favorite country songs, thanks in large part to +Maura Shannon who got me addicted to the television show +Nashville.

Country music is all about emotion and telling a story.
Country music can capture emotions that other genres of music simply cannot.

Here are my favorite country songs in random order:

Kellie Pickler - Didn't You Know How Much I Loved You

This song is pretty much summarized in the title.  I've been told that I can be somewhat emotionally distant, but I prefer to let my actions to the talking.

Favorite lyrics:
Didn't you know how much I loved you? I gave you everything, every part of me.
Didn't you feel it when I touched you?

Dixie Chicks - Not Ready to Make Nice

For me this song goes hand in hand with another Kellie Pickler song below.
This song is very emotionally charged.  Not too many people know this about me, but it is really hard for me to let some things go.  Once I decide I do not like something (or someone) changing my opinion on the matter is very close to impossible.

Favorite lyric:
I'm not ready to make nice

It's too late to make it right
I probably wouldn't if I could
‘Cause I'm mad as hell, can't bring myself
To do what it is you think I should

Jason Aldean - Why

This song talks about the complicated aspects of a relationship.

Favorite lyrics:

Why do I always use the words
That cut the deepest?
When I know how much it hurts you
Oh baby why, do I do that to you?

Carrie Underwood - So Small

This song is very inspirational and when I am in a dark place, I listen to this song and most of the time, it really helps.  This song just helps me put life back into perspective.

Favorite lyric:
While you're sitting around thinking 'bout what you can't change

And worrying about all the wrong things
Time's flying by, moving so fast
You better make it count 'cause you can't get it back

Lonestar - Amazed

While some might consider this another love song, I almost feel that this is the country love song.
I may not have experience this type of love yet, but its still a great song.

Favorite lyrics:

I wanna spend the rest of my life
With you by my side
Forever and ever

Shania Twain - From This Moment

A classic love song.

Favorite lyric (a tad bit dramatic):
I give my hand to you with all my heart
I can't wait to live my life with you I can't wait to start
You and I will never be apart
My dreams came true because of you

Kellie Pickler - I Wonder

This song has struck an emotional cord with me.  I have an estranged relationship with my mother.  In fact, I haven't spoken to her in about 8 years and I have no plans to talk to her in the future.

Favorite lyrics:
Forgiveness is such a simple word
But it's so hard to do when you've been hurt

Lee Ann Womack - I Hope You Dance

This song isn't just about dancing, its about being open to opportunities when they present themselves.

Favorite lyrics:
I hope you still feel small when you stand beside the ocean
Whenever one door closes I hope one more opens

#2 Breathe.

MusicTalk - Paula Abdul

I recently just bought Paula Abdul's Greatest Hits Album and its worth every penny!

I wanted to share some of my favorite songs with you from this album.

Cold Hearted

Straight Up!

Dance Like There's No Tomorrow.
This song isn't in the greatest hits album, but its her most recent song and she can still dance and sing - though its a little too auto-tuned for my taste.
