ESLTalk - WEEK27 - NA1 - Eating

For this week, we go back to an easier topic to focus on speaking.

There are so many aspects to food that we can discuss, everything from world hunger, obesity to simpler topics, such as eating in and eating out.

For me, I love to eat out, but it has to be for a special occasion or to try something new.  I love to cook and throw dinner parties at home.

All of the pictures below are from my own dinner parties, so if I´m going out to eat out, its mostly for the company, occassion, because I like to think I´m an awesome cook
(not to toot my own horn, but TOOT TOOT).

Ha, the last picture is my dessert take on spaghetti and meatballs!

ESLTalk - NA1 - WEEK26 - Inventions

This week we talked about inventions.

What is the best invention ever?

The questions appears to be easy, because most students describe the immediate effects of the invention.  The harder part of the activity is to be able to describe the impact on society.

For example, printing press allowed for "sharing of ideas", but its more than just sharing of ideas, it was a catalyst for widespread literacy.

I still stand by my decision in class.  The best invention ever is the condom - saving humanity from 18 years of ____,____ and ______.

EslTalk - NA1 - WEEK24 - News

For this week we talked about news and practiced reciting some "Breaking News".

A lot of people have asked me about world current events and to be honest, I really don't follow any of it.  Occasionally, I'll visit (Al Jazeera) if I want to figure out what is going on in the world, I think they have the best and most unbiased reporting.  Most of the time I read tech blogs, such as Engadget.  If I do want to read some news, I like the following sites: Happy News and Star Advertiser.  Happy News is a site which just provides happy news, which is great considering most of what is out there is no negative.

SpainTalk - ESLTalk - NA1 - WEEK12 - Crime and Punishment

I guess there is nothing like the start of a New Year.

New beginnings, new possibilities, new hope.

Well, nothing says "Happy New Year" more than the start of this week's topic - Crime and Punishment.

I guess this lesson is for those individuals who have been naughty the past year.

Speaking of crime - what should the punishment be for all this cuteness?!

SpainTalk - ESLTalk - NA1 - WEEK10 - Storytelling

Storytelling is an art-form.

One of the ways you know you have mastered a language is to tell a story of a mundane activity and capture the attention of your audience.

Seriously.

It was an epic battle, the giant man grappled it with his strong hands, yearning.  However, his opponent was strong.  He called for reinforcements and asked for help from his global network.  Each attempted - each failed.  When the odds appeared to be against him, he mustered all of the strength he had left, yelling as if to ask for the help from his ancestors - alas!  The jar of honey was finally opened - and the world was at peace again - for now.

CLICK HERE for this week's lesson.

Speaking of honey - my favorite honey in the world is organic white honey from Hawaii - only $18.90 for a small jar... o_O

SpainTalk - ESLTalk - NA1 - WEEK8 - Dress Codes

This week we will continue our discussion regarding fashion - specifically dress codes.

SpainTalk - ESLTalk - NA1 - Week 7 - Fashion

The topic for this week is fashion.

How would I describe my fashion?

1) Athletic - Because of my training (running, cycling, etc), I prefer clothes with a certain type of material that serves more for function as opposed to style.

2) Colorful - when not in an athletic environment, I prefer clothes with color especially in formal environments which seem to always lack color.

3) Comfortable - this is probably due to the fact that I've lived in warm climates all my life.  I prefer to be in tank tops, shorts and slippers.

SpainTalk - ESLTalk - EOI de Ferrol - NA1 - WEEK5 - Air Travel

The topic this week is air travel.

While most of the world have many different travel options, Hawaii is not one of those places.

This week's lesson is to highlight the different aspects of air travel, from low cost airlines, traditional airlines and so forth.

I had to post this picture for this lesson because it was the smallest plane I have ever been in.  The plane accommodated only 8 passengers.  8!  However, the plane ride was great, especially the scenery in Alaska.

SpainTalk - ESLTalk - EOI de Ferrol - NA1 - WEEK4 - STEREOTYPES

Good morning everyone!

The lesson for week 4 is stereotypes.  There is also a Halloween activity that I did not cover in class.

Stereotypes are basically generalization regarding a group which may or may not be accurate.  Stereotypes aren't all negative - stereotypes are positive as well.

Whether we are aware of it or not, stereotypes do exist and it is a part of our lives (whether we want to admit it or not), everything from gender, age, race, etc. has a stereotype attached.

For example, if you had to match a color with a gender and I said the word "purple" - you'd probably attach that color to the female gender.  Or if you say "color or dye hair" or "long hair" - there are stereotypes normally attached to the female gender.

However, as you know - I'm quite special and being typical really isn't in my blood.

I love wearing colors and yes, I grow my hair and sometimes I dye it as well.

Scroll below for the link for the lesson.
