Lava Tubes

LAVA TUBES

Hiking in the Lava Tubes was an awesome experience. Its not for people who are scared of the dark or small spaces.

It was great to be underground and see the different texture types. Definitely something that has to be experienced in person as my camera (though a decent camera) cannot capture the ambiance and mood of the lava tubes.

At the end of the lava tube, it was really cool to be underground. We all decided to turn off our flashlights. You could hear the water dripping and my imagination just ran wild. I imagined a huge spider eating me whole. (creepy!) Fortunately there were no bugs!

Sorry for the photo layout. I normally embed them, but I've been trying the photo uploader via Blogger

Triathlete

TRIATHLETE

That particular word is something I thought I'd never be able to use to describe myself.

This past weekend, we had our practice triathlon. Swim, bike and run. Granted the lengths weren't very long, but its a starting off point.

2009 Honolulu Triathlon

2009 HONOLULU TRIATHLON

Are you kidding me? Seriously?

My goal this year was to do a triathlon, you know just one of those things to remove from my bucket list.

I will be doing a triathlon in the future, but it will not be the 2009 Honolulu Triathlon.

We received news yesterday that the organizers have scheduled the event on a day when there are jellyfish.

ARE YOU KIDDING ME? SERIOUSLY? This isn't the 1st Annual Honolulu Triathlon.

This is seriously just a shame. There are people who travel from all points of the Earth to pour their heart and soul only to be informed that there will not be a swimming portion in the event this year.

Instead of the usual triathlon: swim, bike, run. This year's event will be a run, bike, run.

Consider me peeved.

2 weeks

2 WEEKS

I am still in disbelief.

2 Sundays ago, I was learning how to ride a bike. Last Sunday, was my first time riding on the street in a pack.

Today, we had our first time trial and I can't believe the progress I have made.

Just goes to show. Anything is possible.

Pic of me & some new friends.

Protein, Part Deux

PROTEIN PART DEUX

Just in case yesterday's 1 lb t-bone steak wasn't enough, I'd thought I'd have another steak. Today, 1 pound rib-eye steak with bone in with sauteed mushrooms and garlic.

PROTEIN

I've been very tired recently from training and after speaking to my trainer; she thinks its from a lack of protein.

Je Veux Te Voir

JE VEUX TE VOIR

This song was free on iTunes a while back and it played on my iPhone while I was driving.

I have no idea what she is saying, but I love this song.

Arrgghh! I wish I understood French!

Au revoir!

Beyond Exhausted

BEYOND EXHAUSTED

I am just tired and sore and tired and sore and tired and sore.

Yesterday, our training group broke into two: ones that are running first and the other cycling first. I volunteered to run 1st since I like to run.

I am doing the 2009 Honolulu Triathlon Sprint (which is a shorter version of the full triathlon), with that said, everyone agreed since I just did the Honolulu Marathon that I should run with the group running the longer distance (the running group was further broken down into 2 groups - one training for the full triathlon and the other training for the Sprint Tri).

My running group took off quite quickly, I stayed behind (about 20 ft. behind), as I liked to run at my own pace (and start off slowly). 6.5 miles later (felt like 13.1 - but that's just me)... Time for cycling...

Cycling was grooling. I took all of my energy to keep up. Granted we were on trainers and basically like spinning class, but I didn't want to spin way slower than others.

Around 2000 training was completed, I was SOOOO happy I stopped by L&L and got a BBQ Chicken Musubi, which I inhaled before leaving the parking lot.

As soon as I got home, Epsom salt bath was started, and I started rolling my calves on the foam circle thing that I have and fortunately, I woke up this morning, just tired, not as sore as I expected to be...

Going to run my bike again tonight... arrgghh!

Learning to ride...

LEARNING TO RIDE

Yesterday I woke up with anxiety. I didn't know how to ride a bike and here I am training with a Team Jet Hawaii for the 2009 Honolulu Triathlon.

An hour after the training started, I was just in shock. I couldn't believe it. Here I am going stopping/going, fast, switching gears, riding against/with 30 MPH winds. Beat part is... No blood! (I never fell!)

Granted its in a huge parking lot... but considering I've been trying to learn for a while, I can't believe what some 1 on 1 training can do. That's exactly what I had, 1 on 1 time with a trainer, Mike (pic below). Yup, he's the man...

Mahalo Mike!

This is just the beginning. GO TEAM!
