Seriously, I can't believe I've been here for only a couple of days. Things are going so fast...

Ok, so what I have been up to recently?!

What a small world. I use to host people from Couchsurfing and Hospitalityclub in Hawaii when I use to live in my old apartment... and yes one of my guests lives here now in St. Pete... Ms. Sarai.

OMG. it was so nice to catch up with her, we went to dinner in Gulfport - called O'Maddy's (yes add me on Yelp! I've been checking in EVERYWHERE). Dinner was beyond delicious, can't wait to go back there. After dinner, we took Cassis dessert to go and we went back to her restaurant for a couple of drinks... met some cool peoples! Then guess what! Went go George's Alibi to watch RPDR Season 3, and even a show afterwards! Lots of alcohol and lots of food.

So basically no more drinking for a while.

Today was quite productive... moved stuff from the old house to the new and unpacked a bit. Then attended an orientation meeting to become a teacher here in the State of Florida. Interesting, in 1 year, I can become a certified teacher here in the State of Florida (molding the future of tomorrow... bwah hahhh ah hhaha)

Oh and I had Olive Garden for Dinner. WHAT WHAT!

Monthly challenge - Whipping back into shape.

Its actually really cool this month, the whole house is working out, I just write the workout schedule on the board and yes, everyone will do it. GO TEAM! I will be pretty much running every single day or some sort of cardio as well as do other exercises. Need to get myself ready for Dominican Republic - I'll probably run out there as well. :)

Alright... yes... no pictures. ugh (lame, I know), but I'll take pictures with Sarai tomorrow so you get to meet her... :)

HI to FL - Last and First.

Yes, this blog segment is called Last and First...

(disclaimer, i'm recovering from lack of sleep and a small kine hangover - starting to become a recurring theme... o.O)

Last day in Hawai'i.

First day in Florida.

What did I do in my last day in Hawaii!? Quite a lot really.

First, breakfast with my roommate. I still can't believe we worked together for 6-7 years and live together just as long...

So where would we go!? Zippy's of course! Portuguese sausage, eggs and rice. So delicious...

After our hugs and goodbyes, it was time to get in BEAST packing mode. More or less it was cleaning everything out (which was mostly already done) and then packing everything else into the boxes.

Then I picked up Maya and headed off to our lunch! Nothing says, delicious lunch than putting on a hat and sipping on some tea - at A Cup of Tea in Kailua.

I've been there once before and it was as cool as I remember, good sandwiches, great tea, scones were yummy (especially with their jam)

When lunch was over, it was time to head over to my house and pack up! Maya and I took everything out of the house and into the pickup truck.

Weird part is, it started to sync in... I won't be coming back here for a while...

Well, there wasn't much time to think, it was time to head over to Maya's house, drop off the luggage, and head over to Hawaiian Parasail.

Long story short (for this section anyways), our appointment was at 1400. We got there at 1355. We left at 1425 - with no parasailing involved. They were running behind and our schedule didn't allow for tardiness.

Yes... so... heading back to the house and loaded up luggage to pickup truck, dropped off Maya and headed to Alamo rental car. I'm not sure if this is foreshadowing my experience in the mainland, but I was rather disturbed looking at the situation now. Basically, I had lots of luggage (7 bags total - 2 carryons, 4 check-in and a bicycle). I took all the luggages out of the truck into the front of the building, then onto the shuttle, then off the shuttle, then onto 2 airport carts, through agriculture, to the United check in line. All with no help and people just staring at me. It was sort of weird, because thinking about it now, I would have offered help.

Then I ran into a United agent, I was like yes... then she instructed me to weigh everything and make sure it was underweight. 3 of my luggages were overweight by 2-3 pounds. Yes, she had me open the boxes and redistribute things. Sad part is, all of the United agents were in the back with no customers, just staring.

After that debacle and I finally got in line. I ran into a familiar face, but someone I've never met before. After a hug and hello, she saved my day. A random act of kindness. When I was checked in, I went outside to try to find a cigarette and I got quite emotional. I guess just with lugging everything around, someone helping was all I needed to get me in the emotional roller coaster.

Morales then picked me up at the airport for some Japanese food (which I had udon immediately and took some sushi for the plane).

The flight wasn't really anything exciting to write home about. Standard flight, my flight landed when my connection started boarding in another terminal... (oh I did sleep most of the flights... LOL). With the short connection in Chicago, my luggages didn't make it on the flight, cool part is - they delivered them a couple of hours later.

Yup, officially moved into my new home, cool part is, reuniting with my friends - we didn't skip a beat, it was as if nothing happened.

I'm sure I'll be writing more about our new adventures...

For dinner, we went to a scmancy restaurant with good food and bad service.

Yup, then off to a bar named Detour. Drank way too much, entered a contest, had way too much fun, and still paying for it.

HI to FL - Why I never say goodbye...

Why I don't say goodbye...

Funny thing about goodbye parties... I always tend to have more than 1. I've had a going away BBQ, Last Supper, my 2nd last supper tonight, a going away breakfast.

I say this with all my heart, I may be leaving, but I am taking a part of my friends with me. I have had quite the transformation since I first reached the islands of Hawai'i 2.2.2000. I've become a happier person, I don't think I've had a meal which didn't include laughter in recent memory. I've become a more patient person and I've learned to conquer my fears.

hmmm... I don't say goodbye, because sooner or later - our paths will cross again. Whether its here in Hawaii, or somewhere in the mainland, I don't doubt that we will see each other soon.

A special thanks to my friends who came out for my 2nd going away dinner at Cafe Laurel. I'm truly touched (yes and somewhat tearful) that I get the pleasure to see all your bright smiles one more time before my departure.

I truly love you all.

HI to FL - Last Supper

The title is not to be taken completely literally nor taken into consideration with its religion overtones, but merely my last supper here in Hawaii.

This took place at one of my favorite places to eat - Little Village. Yes, I wish everyone could make it, but I do understand!

Before Little Village, we had martinis at Indigo's! I enjoyed my cosmos, while everyone else had their Lychee Martinis...

I can't believe we ate so much food - then again, if you've eaten at Little Village you'd understand why. The food was D-LISH! 2 orders of lettuce wraps, an order of crispy won-tons, 2 orders of honey-walnut shrimp (yum), salt and pepper pork chops, orange chicken, mushroom and green beans, scallop and onions, fried rice... and that wasn't even the best part...

The best part was the company. We wined, talked, chatted, laughed about nearly anything and everything.

Well before I get to the announcement, I can't believe I ate this much! I had lunch with my 2nd set of parents... yes - they are completely awesome... At Assagio's. In fact, I still have leftovers.

Oh yeah... the announcement, well, I made an announcement at the dinner table - that guess what?!

I changed my plane ticket.

I'm not leaving until Friday... though this time for real, I even got a rental car... LOL

Yup, so we will be having the last tailgate this Thursday night!

Weekend Extravaganza - Scuba Certification Edition

How was your weekend? Seriously, this past weekend was so crazy awesome, I'm still in disbelief really. Though someone is typing this blog... hmmm... might as well be me. (disclaimer: quite exhausted - if this doesn't make sense, I'll update at a later point in time)

Disclaimer - this will be a lengthy blog.

How do you celebrate your last Friday in Hawai'i (in the near foreseeable future)? Happy Hour of course!! There's no better Happy Hour on the island than Dave and Busters (M-F 1630-1900, Su-Th 2200 - closing)! All the hard liquor and mixed drinks are 50% off. That's not even the best part - the location, watching the sunset at the roof deck of DnB while having a Cosmo is really where its at - especially when you're in the company of awesome friends!

What do you when Happy Hour is over? Play games of course! After playing tons of games for tickets we didn't redeem. What's next?! Time for the next bar. (seriously). I don't think I've been to 2 bars in one night since 2006?

Well, we lost one on the way to Hula's. Hula's was fun, it hasn't changed much in years, great relaxed environment with people that are easily approachable and a bit of dancing to be had - and dancing we did.

One part of this experience that was a bit of a sour note, was the fact that I knew I had to scuba dive the next day at 0730 - at Electric Beach on the east side. Basically, I needed to be up and out of the house by 0600 the next day. The ironic part is I took the written part of my NAUI scuba exam online on Friday - that stated you shouldn't drink nor smoke before you dive. At the end of the night, I had a bit too much to drink, but I spent roughly 2 hours drinking heaps of water, coffee and dancing.

After a quick power nap, it was time to head to Electric Beach for my first dive in the ocean. Now, you guys know that I am scared of open water, so I had a bit of anxiety, but fortunately - I was too tired to really have any fear. In fact, I feel asleep in the back of the pickup truck on the way there (and even on the way back). We performed two dives this day.

Group Briefing - apparently I'm not listening.

Hmmm... I thought I had a lot more things to say about scuba certification, but the thoughts really allude me at this time. Let me just write about some technical aspects. The certification process requires 5 dives (including 1 freedive - without gear). Each dive requires performing tasks that must be completed - cool part is, its the same tasks we did in the pool the Tuesday and Thursday night prior.

Scuba Gear

Actually, thinking about it, having taken this class, it has made me feel a lot more comfortable in the water. Even learning basic skills like clearing your mask, different ways to dive underwater, and just the experience of being underwater - 3 hours and 23 minutes underwater has really opened my eyes that there really isn't anything to be scared of - as long as you know your abilities and respect the water. Yes, I am not going on some 200 ft. dive anytime soon, but yes, I'll go on some shallower dives.

I'm NAUI Scuba Certified - shut the FRONT DOOR! Will post a copy of the ID upon receipt in a week or so.

Me underwater...

Oh yeah, this past weekend too, a lot of my things have been sold, the extra TVs are gone, bed, desks, etc. Tomorrow, the car will be sold and hopefully the bike as well.

PS. Fuji XP20 sucks underwater. I think it would be good for snorkeling or the pool, nothing deeper than 5ft. Oh yeah, I saw 4 turtles today. lol where's that honu picture?

HI to FL - Crazy Busy.

Wow. I last blogged on Tuesday and yup, so much has happened.

Well, I'm leaving Hawaii in less than a week. Seriously? Seriously... Seriously!

Ok... so what it do?

It did a lot. o.O

First on Wednesday I had my MBA interview with UH - Manoa.

I didn't realize - how different I was than the other candidates until this interview. The interview was one on one, but the questions that were asked really made me think about me and the choices I have made in my life.

I recall one of the interview questions was - "What is your biggest accomplishment?"

I answered - "learning how to ride a bike at 29"

He was in disbelief. I explained my situation and more or less, it was this moment that I knew I could do anything. anything I put my mind to. Fear is not experiencing the unknown and I learned that I facing my fears has really changed my life these past couple of years.

I told him from there, I started doing it all, swimming, surfing, snorkeling and now scuba diving. Yes, scared 'ol me of the open water (yes Summer - insert outer Hanauma bay face here).

Well, after the interview - Jen picked me up from UH and we were celebrating her birthday - so we spent the whole day together. First was a quick errand and LUNCH time! (Nom nom nom).

I was really quite nervous about the interview, so I didn't eat anything.

For lunch, we went to Sam Choy's - it was yummy. I had the bento, and it was crazy huge. This is a Sam Choy bento.

After that, we went to Target (with Starbucks of course - to counteract everything that I just ate), and went back to Kailua, said hi to the doggies (hi tank, tai and toby!), took a power nap, and a couple of hours later, it was dinner time.

Went to Zia's and it was a great mini reunion. I hadn't seen Leilani in forever! Yes, stuffing my face with pupus, wine, pasta, garlic bread and dessert. o.O

Well, after that - its BOWLING TIME.

Seriously!? how FUN is bowling! I can't believe I hadn't bowled in FOREVER!

I think it may have been over 5 years.

Weird thing is, I'm a decent bowler. lol I think it was the Corona's after the wine.

I bowled a 124 then a 136! (shut the front door!)

Wow this blog is getting lengthy. After that, it was almost 10, went back to Jen's place, watched Project Runway - All Stars, passed out.

Next day, had breakfast at Cinnamon's in Kailua. Took the bus home. Found a buyer for my car. Went to Scuba Certification (from 1800-2320), then to Jack in the Box (ha ha).

Alright... the next couple of days are crazy busy as well. It's crunch time!

A friend is a friend that knows - when you say you're ok, to give you a hug and tell you that its going to be ok. because they can tell that you're not.

Conquering Fear - Deep Water

Who would have guessed I would be talking about me entering the deep water!?

Well, I've made great strides the last couple of years to really enjoy the water. Learning how to swim, learning how to surf, snorkeling, kayaking, and now... scuba diving.

Today was the 1st (night) day of scuba certification, and supposedly the hardest, getting to know the gear was the easy part. There was a swim test! It was so hard since I hadn't really been swimming and such.

So the test:
-Swim 200 meters non-stop (not too bad, sorta sucked without a warm-up)
-Swim 50 meters underwater - with 1 breath (pretty easy - I have great lung capacity)
-Tread water for 10 minutes (this sucked so hard)

Treading water for me is the hardest - for those of you (Team Jet) who have trained with me in the water - especially the UH pool, know that I just sink to the bottom, it was really really hard for me. Everyone else was talking, playing games, while I was there struggling staring at the sky trying to stay above water.

After that the rest was easy. It was assembling out gear, getting in the water and going through exercises. Breathing with the apparatus, finding the apparatus while underwater, how to remove water from your mask while underwater, completely filling your mask with water and clearing, removing your mask completely and putting it back on and clearing. then helping our your buddy who is out of oxygen, then getting use to having all the gear and finding your buoyancy.

Sounds short, but our session today was from 1800-2230. I was so cold in the water. Weird part is, I wasn't cold anymore when I left the water.

I'm finally home, blogging and exhausted.

Childhood Recollections & MORE Adventures

Growing up, one of the things I never got to experience was celebrate a birthday at Chuck E. Cheese - and I still haven't, but the next closest thing is to go for Rowena's 30th birthday!

Yes, I acted like a big kid (yes - probably like I normally do) and ate pizza, drank coffee, played games and of course... rode in the rides

Who says you're too old to have a great time at Chuck E. Cheese?

Thanks Eric and Aubrey for driving and Rowena for celebrating your b-day there (what an awesome idea!)!

The next day was crunch day (today) with the special help of a special help (no that kind of special) of Michelle Morales. We whipped through my things, sorted out many things, packaged many things, even had time for lunch and a power nap.

Of course, that was exhausting... what better way to treat yourself to relaxation than a Deluxe manicure and pedicure at Sophisticated Nails. Yes, she got all the calluses out of my running feet!

Then off to Himalayan food! How delish... I think it helped that it was B.Y.O.B. and we had lots of bottles of wines! Needless to say that the food was gone.

As if that wasn't enough... it was time for a late night movie - at the Movie Museum... Not just any movie - a French movie, Monsieur Batignole, movie was great, quick summary, it was about a man (reread title) and Jewish boy during WWII - watch it, it is a touching and endearing story.

All these activities during the weekend!? Banana boating (see previous post), BBQing, eating dim sum, Chuck E. Cheese, Mani/Pedi, Himalayan Kitchen, Movie Museum. All of these things are great, but one of the things that I am starting to realize are all of the amazing friends I will be far from once I move to Florida.

Review - 3660 On The Rise

It has been quite some time since I've written about food and restaurant dining, so tonight - you are in for a treat! Yes, I will be writing a quick review for 3660 On The Rise.

Though this isn't my first time dining at this restaurant, the long gap since my last visit has made me realize what an exquisite restaurant this establishment is.

Basically - yes, the service is phenomenal - so is the food.

Besides eating Kobe potstickers, calamari, ahi sashimi... the caesar salad was better than any out there... and so is the Miso butterfish. YUM!

Of course, if you just happen to have room for dessert - which is really hard since all of the food is delicious. I'd suggest the chocoholic - only if you LOVE chocolate, the one of the left is very decadent. The middle one is a chocolate sorbet on top of chocolate funnel cake.

Price range of this restaurant is $10-$20 for appetizers, $20-$35 for entrees, and roughly $10 for dessert. All worth it, but I reserve this place for special occasions. I think the food is better than 12th avenue grill and Sarento's. However, it lacks the pizzazz and the view of the latter.

One thing about moving is that you have to spend heaps of time sorting through things. Things worth keeping, things to be thrown away, donated or even sold.

Interesting thing happened while I was sorting through my old cards - yes I've kept every greeting, thank you, birthday, christmas and congratulation card - I realized that I was a very mean person to someone particular. After 5 years I called and apologized - I was not in the right place to receive this person's love and attention.

So why is this blog called hello and goodbye? Well, I'm a fan of Lisa Loeb and yes, for a birthday present, I received a signed Lisa Loeb CD personalized for me - CD aptly named Hello Kitty.

I guess in the process of moving as well, you realize there are certain relationships that are toxic and must be disposed of. Of course, this song came on whilst cleaning. Old but still a goodie.

Big Island Adventure

Being intoxicated on New Years Eve - check.

Realizing the next day (I'm too old for this shit) - check.

Having wine later that day - check.

ha ha. a lot of things happened on this short trip to Hawai'i. Being bit by mosquitoes, driving around the island, meeting new people, reuniting with old friends, staying at a bed and breakfast, hiking, snorkeling, kayaking to a snorkel spot, hiking up a mountain, eating awesome homecooked food, laughing like there are no problems with the world.

I am seriously blessed, I had an awesome trip to the big island and got to participate in some awesome activities - I wish I could share some of them with you (see note to self - up top), then again, its probably one of those things that you need to see for yourself. or go google it - Kealakekua Bay.

We even stayed at a bed and breakfast 1 day - check it out! http://www.alohaguesthouse.com/ - this place is beyond gorgeous and I can't believe its my 4 or 5th time staying there!

Well, enough rambling for me. For me, it was great to get away from the city and be in the company of a good friend. I really didn't miss having my cell phone - I actually might disconnect it when I move.

2012 - Happy New Year

Wow... what a way to start off the new year.

The last day of 2011 was a day that was very well spent. I am currently in the country of the Big Island - with no cell phone reception, 3500 feet above sea level. However, when I arrived, the weather was nice and warm - surprisingly Hilo was warmer than Honolulu. Immediately, after a quick breakfast break Summer and I went to the beach - not just any beach, a beach accessible after a 2.5 mile hike through the jungle. Needless to say it was completely worth it. Here are some pictures!

Here is a picture of us enjoying a coconut - one that I opened with my bare hands. Which isn't too hard actually. The coconut with its husk is a huge coconut, you want to hit both ends along a shark rock to soften it, you'll need a bit of physical force to peel off the husk - then to access the juice, you strike the widest part of the coconut against the rock - not super hard, but enough to create a crack on it and just follow it around. and voila! You get some juice and lots of yummy coconut!

After the beach... thai food, a long 1.5 drive - which of course, I napped the whole time... it was relax time, and of course party time. What a better way to ring in the New Years than with a small group of people and of couse cosmos and green apple martinis.

I seriously can't believe the year is almost over. I am in disbelief the things that have happened this year... taking the year off from working, traveling the world, graduating from college, doing research in Guatemala, participating in the Honolulu Century Ride and getting my 50th passport stamp! All of this while being blessed to have the company of great people around the world and the support of my friends and family.

2012

A new year with a new set of adventures. Well, ringing in the new year on the Big Island! Then getting ready for the move to Florida! One of the reasons I am moving is I need an aspect of "uncertainty" in my life. Some people are scared of uncertainty and I think I thrive with the unknown - having endless possibilities and a chance to explore and try something new.

My favorite gadget this year

(TIE) Dell Venue Pro and Blackberry Curve. (yup - sold the iPad) Yes, these are both mobile phones, and they really have changed my life this year. My unlocked blackberry curve allowed me to travel throughout Guatemala and Ecuador while keeping in touch with everyone new I met and everyone back home via email. I really like my Dell Venue Pro - which runs Windows 7.5 OS - the streamlined OS has both iOS and Android beat. (seriously)

Aloha everyone!

Hope you had an awesome holiday season. Hopefully you received everything you wished for and more. This holiday season has been beyond phenomenal for me. Some downs but countless ups that has made me realize how lucky I am.

On Christmas day... I spent the day frolicking in the ocean and sun bathing. Also, went to watch Mission Impossible 4 (what a great movie!) I'm blessed to have such awesome presents this year - way beyond what I was expecting!

This week has been great weather-wise. Slightly chilly and cloudy in the AM (so you can sleep in a little bit) and then it gets nice and warm! I've been pretty much outdoors every day this week. From hiking Kuliouou ridge, going around the island, getting tanned at many beaches, eating delicious food!

Lucky me. Perfect weather & awesome friends.

I'll be spending my NYE on the Big Island! A new adventure for me to start 2012 - just one of many upcoming adventures!

HI to FL - It's Official!

Aloha everyone!

HI to FL is a new blog section - that chronicles my move to FL (get it?! hi to FL?!)

Yesterday, I shipped my first things to Florida... via Media Mail. Over 24 pounds of books and only $11.89. From what I understand about media mail, you can ship everything that you can find at the library. Books, Magazines, CDs, DVDs, etc. I'll be shipping more things via media mail tomorrow. =D

I've been really emotional lately - perhaps underlying emotions about the move? perhaps already missing Hawaii? perhaps emotional due to the holidays!?

It's amazing the viewpoint you have about a location when you realize you have a finite time left. I've done more exploration and driving of the island in the last month than I have this whole year combined. I went hiking on a trail that's 5 minutes from my house for the first time ever - Kuliouou Ridge. Yesterday, went to a part of the beach, I've never been to - below Makapu'u.

Amazing.

What would you do if you have a finite time at a place?

Happy Graduation To ME!

Who would have thought? Today, I am officially a college graduate. Yes - a recipient of a Bachelor Degree in Anthropology at the University of Hawaii at Manoa.

Yes, today is the ceremony and instead of walking the stage and receiving my diploma, I will be volunteering at Ward Warehouse - wrapping presents to raise money for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.

Quite interesting really - do I feel any different today? No... yet, somehow I'm a better member of society for obtaining this piece of paper - which of course doesn't arrive in the mail for another 10-12 weeks.

Well, if I can do it - you can as well. Actually, its really interesting the dynamics of the classroom when you are older. I am not afraid to speak up in class - I'm quite sure my classmates would wish that I STFU. o_O

Sorry so short, I really wanted to write a longer piece about this, and perhaps I will, but I have to get ready to volunteer.

Christmas Tree

Wow... I am beyond in the spirit of Christmas that I am so happy and beyond excited for the holidays.

Today, I had a final 0730 this morning - though I was in awake and studying by 0430, then I decorated my tree with the help of Summer (of course whilst listening to Christmas music), had Greek for for lunch, after we went snorkeling and swimming, watched a Christmas movie - Arthur's Christmas (3/5 stars)...

Sooo... back to the Christmas tree. This is my first ever real christmas tree so I was quite nervous - as you can see from the before picture but nonetheless...

Here is the final product. I can't believe how awesome it looks!

2011 Honolulu Marathon - #334

Its a perfect day for running a marathon, its currently 0901 - about 4 hours in the Honolulu Marathon (starts at 0500) and it is nice and cool outside, breezy and its cloudy as well!

This may not be the perfect day for people who want to go to the beach, but it is a great day for marathoners - no rain as well!

I've been ill the last 3-4 days and I was hoping for a quick recovery - unfortunately, that isn't the case.

This would have been my 4th consecutive Honolulu Marathon...

I am really disappointed, I didn't fully train 100% or even 75%, or even 50% for this race, but its still a race I would have been able to complete - had I been healthy.

People ask me why? or how do I run marathons? It's quite easy actually... A marathon is one of those things that you do not experience until you do one. You mind might tell you its hard, its easy, its crazy... but until you actually experience the actual marathon through the movement of your body, you will not experience many things... the race itself, the people cheering for you, the communitas if you will with other racers - pushing each other to get to the ultimate goal, no matter at what speed.

When I mean pushing - not literally - its actually illegal to receive any kind of physical aid to propel you forward. With that said, when you run with a large group of people it really motivates you... whether it is pacing with someone at your speed, going a little bit faster because you don't want this person to pass you, saying kind words to someone ahead of you who started walking (or vice versa), the experience of the marathon is one I enjoy - no matter what time I finish.

The sweat running down every orifice of your body, every part of your aching body doesn't compare to the feeling of crossing the finish line. I still get emotional after crossing...

Well, there will always be next year... =D

College Advice - Part I - Save $$$

I can't believe it! I am finally graduating in 9 days and who would have thought that I would be a college graduate?!

I've always been rather resourceful and thrifty... I managed to save a lot of money by doing a couple of things, and since I am graduating... I wanted to share some tips for you to save some $$$...

Tip #1 - Buy your Books EARLY!!

Most of the books are already listed for the spring semester - what are you waiting for?! Buy them online - shop and compare!!

Head to: UH BOOKSTORE (CLICK HERE FOR LINK!)

Select your classes... and voila!! a list of books will be presented! Note: you will have to recheck this at least once a week as some professors wait until last minute to publish the book list (which feel free to email them as well).

Shop online! My top 2 choices are: Amazon and Barnes & Nobles - each of these shops have a used sections... pretty much all you have to do is cut and pate the ISBN number and shop!

Let's compare a couple of books!

Book Banter - The Body Silent - Robert F. Murphy

I normally don't write about books - which is really odd considering I read A LOT.

So, I'm going to start writing about a book I've read, just finished reading or in the process of reading.

Today, you guessed it - The Body Silent by Robert F. Murphy.

Murphy is a anthropologist who becomes disabled - he chronicles the process of his disability, providing insight into his transformation from losing more abilities that he was accustomed to having. Power dichotomies, anthropological theory, struggle for identity are just few of the issues that are in the book.

While, I do have some critique of the book - primarily there are many anthropological theories in his prose - however, none are analyzed deeper than the surface level, this book left me with a few tears and many thoughts which can be summarized with one sentence from his book.

'We live within the walls of our own making, staring out at life through bars thrown up by culture and annealed by our fears' - p.230.

We like to think of disabled people as not having the capacity to take care of themselves - which really isn't the case. We are uncomfortable by the unknown - the chance interaction with our own fears.

Yet, we all create our bars. Congratulating others about things we would never consider possible for ourselves.

If this book has taught me anything - its perhaps the people who live the mundane life that are the most disabled - the ones that do not feel pain, dispair, hope and triumphs.

2011 - What I've Learned - Lesson #1

Aloha all!

In addition to my monthly challenge - I'll be posting a reflection about 2011. I've had the great opportunity to just attend school and focus on life. Basically, not working and trying to figure out life.

Time does fly back fast, doesn't it?

A full year without working... wow... finally time to integrate back into the workforce. So... after a whole year of not-working... I must have learned a couple of things, right?

Lesson #1 - Your current relationships will not change.

I had this notion that taking a year off would further solidify my relationships with people but actually having more time made me realize that is truly not the case. To place this in theoretical context, the degree of relationship you have with an individual - is based on the time that you can invest on that individual - which does not correlate to the amount of time that other individual has. An example, if the other person suddenly has all the free time in the world - that doesn't change the fact that you have your own priorities and therefore have more time to spend with an individual - you will have the same amount of time. Moral of the story - if people don't call you when you're busy - they're not going to call you when you have more time. If you're the one that did all the calling - you're still the one that's going to do all the calling. If you always visited someone - yup... the cycle continues.

While others may not have more time to spend with me, my free time has allowed for new friendships to develop - and not just so called friends - actual friends. I think I am a great judge of character and I am lucky to have maintained the friendships I have and also make new friends along the way.

On the other spectrum, this is why I consider "social networking" like Facebook is a facade - for some relationships it creates a "false consciousness" that a deeper relationship exists. Facebook is merely a mechanism to expend the minimum amount of time to maintain these relationships. Don't get me wrong - this is great for networking and maintaining relationships you probably would not spend the upkeep otherwise. This is not to discount that level of relationships are stagnant, on the contrary, it is quite fluid. If you receive some positive aspect of a relationship via any medium - you will be more apt to spend more time with that person. With that said - time and social mediums do not mix. Think about it, a friend you communicate with on Facebook wants to come visit and spend two weeks with you - if you only spend time communicating on Facebook the sudden shift in "time allotment" will increase dramatically and actually puts your relationship in a power imbalance. Will you take 2 weeks off to spend time with this friend? You may or may not - what I am merely trying to illustrate is that you will spend the amount of time gauging in correlation to the depth of your friendship. (PROBABLY NOT!)

Check your cell phone and your outgoing calls - that who/what is important to you, whether it is work, friends, BF, family, etc. If you feel like something is out of balance - maybe this is a good time to analyze what is important to you and create a time chart that is consistent. We can see this in long-distance relationships - though individuals are far away they spend time utilizing other methods of communication because they are not physically able to.

A counter argument may imply that our methods of communication change with technology and that we adapt to the technology available to us - and those that are utilized within our communication circle. This is a valid point - however - you will still spend more time with those individuals you put on a pedestal.

Airline Baggage Fees between Hawaii & Mainland

Aloha all,

I've never really paid too much to the baggage fees that is charged to us, I normally don't check in luggage, but for those traveling from/to Hawai'i to/from the mainland, I was surprised what I found.

While there may not be a big difference if you're only checking in 1-2 luggages, once you decide to check in a 3rd piece, a surfboard, a bicycle, or if your luggage is overweight - then your luggage fees may even cost more than your ticket. (NO KIDDING).

So much for the "Aloha" spirit.

I decided to put together a compilation of all 6 major airline and the baggage fees they charge.

Cheapest airline (surprisingly) is Alaska airlines (and yes they fly between Hawaii and the mainland). If you check in 3 luggages (less than 50 pounds) you'll only pay $60.00, but if you flew Continental you'll pay $260.00 - that's a $200 difference (that's more than an interisland ticket!)

Sporting goods (bicycles and surfboards) turned out to be quite tricky... Each airline pretty much has their own caveat. One big surprise is US Airways - if the dimensions of your bicycle is less than 62" (lenght + width + height of the container) it will count as regular luggage, but if it is greater than 62" you will pay $200 (the HIGHEST fee for Sporting Goods!)

***Note - this is only for standard flyers - if you have Elite or Gold status within an airlines - refer to your airline's specific website for fees and restrictions.

White Chocolate Chip Chocolate Cookies

Hey everyone!

I am in a posting mood today!

I just made some homemade cookies... FROM SCRATCH... and I wanted to share the recipe...

Its super delicious!

Yes... small kine neurotic, I measured everything

Ingredients

2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour

2/3 cup NESTLE® TOLL HOUSE® Baking Cocoa

1 teaspoon baking soda

1/4 teaspoon salt

1 cup butter or margarine, softened

3/4 cup granulated sugar

2/3 cup packed brown sugar

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

2 large eggs

1 (12 ounce) package NESTLE® TOLL HOUSE® Premier White Morsels

Once you get all of your ingredients together follow these steps...

Directions

1. PREHEAT oven to 350 degrees F.

2. COMBINE flour, cocoa, baking soda and salt in small bowl.

3. Beat butter, granulated sugar, brown sugar and vanilla extract in large mixer bowl until creamy.

4. Beat in eggs. Gradually beat in flour mixture. Stir in morsels.

5. Drop by well-rounded teaspoon onto ungreased baking sheets.

6. BAKE for 9 to 11 minutes or until centers are set. Cool on baking sheets for 2 minutes; remove to wire racks to cool completely.

These cookies are SUPER delicious! I've eaten 6 already and I'll be eating a lot more!

1000 Words - Military Edition...

It is that time again!

1000 words!

This is going to be pretty challenging - I don't remember everyone in this picture...

Alright... the setting - Korea.. South Korea. Exact place. Waegwan - South Korea.

Temperature... cold.

I was stationed in Hawaii and I was deployed to South Korea for a mission... Exact mission? I can't really remember. Date? Nope, not that one either.

I do remember other details... First... the guy on the right is Josh McSomething. lol We went through 91K training together in San Antonio, Texas - phase I, then I went to Washington and he went somewhere in the South. It was great to reunite with him.

Sorry for the quality of the picture, we weren't as high tech back then, I think this was taken with my canon a 3MP camera that cost me nearly $300!

On this particular day, we were going somewhere...

hmmm. I guess I need to write more of these 1000 words...

Apparently, my memory is dissipating faster than I anticipated.

Yup, I am not exactly sure what is going on with me recently... but I apparently like to wait until the last minute to start training.

With the Honolulu Century Ride, I had about 5 weeks to train for the event and yes... the Honolulu Marathon is coming up and I will have 6 weeks to train for the event.

It shouldn't be too bad hopefully, I just need to be focused and ready to work!

I can't believe it, this will be my 4th Honolulu Marathon.

Anyone else training for the Marathon?

eBay - How do I love thee? Let me count the ways...

Apparently, 500 times...

A lot of people are apprehensive about buying things online, and I am not one of those people, I've purchased everything from computers, Blu Ray players, video games, cell phones, clothes, food, protein shakes, energy bars, running gear, etc.

Buying things online is great... a lot of merchants are cheaper online and offer free shipping and they are not obligated to charge state tax (eBay, Amazon, etc.)

Things that I recommend buying on eBay...

-Video Games

-Cell Phone accessories (chargers, cases, etc - super cheap!)

-CDs - want an old CD, eBay for cheap!

Other than that it is basically based on your level of comfort, I buy my running shoes on eBay (new) or Amazon and it's normally $50 cheaper than buying them at the store...

Well, speaking of eBay, I will be listing lots of things on sale in the near future! Cleaning house!

Monthly Challenge - 6 pack - Week 1

Wow... can't believe its been a week has past already! Goes by Soo fast!

Where did this week go?!

Alright...

My monthly challenge has been going great...

I've completely cut off all of my former desserts and have switched to a lesser fat content based sweets... I am nom noming on Jello with whipped cream and of course rice krispies...

It is really easy to make and I think it taste way better than the ones you buy at the store premade.

Ok... so what have I been doing...

1) Focus on diet with lesser (bad) fats...

1000 words - Canadian Edition

Alright, its time for another 1000 Words blog! I can't believe I haven't written one in ages!

Ok... so 1000 words is basically taking a picture (recent or way in the past) and just trying to remember every single detail of the picture and the events.

I think we get caught up in daily life so much... that even when we have moments to look through an album and find pictures, we never really take the time to fully embody everything at that particular moment...

Ok, so here we go...

This picture was taken August 3, 2004. Thanks to iPhoto, yes I really did not remember the date.. but I did remember many events that led to this particular picture...

First, this was the trip that I met my dad for the first time. Long story short, I did some private investigating to find him and found three possible addresses, I mailed each one a postcard a little about myself. Two of the postcards - I received back with return to sender. One day, I did receive a letter with a copy of my birth certificate in there, and found that my dad was living in Long Beach.

During this time frame, I was working for Hawaiian Airlines and Mortgage Brokers Consortium and my friends from Canada invited me back, so why not!? I had flight benefits. I figured, kill 2 birds with 1 stone - meet my dad for the first time and go on vacation with my best friend Eddie (who was living in San Diego at the time). So my plan was take an overnight flight to LAX (on Hawaiian), meet with dad for breakfast and then catch a flight to YVR (on Alaska Airlines).

I remember getting off the flight with my heart racing (it was quite early - I would say around 6am) , all the years of not having him in my life... would he know it was me? what if we didn't get along? There he was in a blue flannel jacket... I'd go into further details (we had Denny's for breakfast!), but i'll save that for another time... Needless to say, for those of you who know me very well, know that I love to laugh - well that's from my dad...

Love you dad.

The trip was filled with excitement - of course - for those of us who have flown standby know how important timing is - and you guys know neurotic I am about being late - which I got from my mom.

My best friend Eddie was driving from San Diego to LAX to catch a flight with me... If I recall correctly our flight was at 11:30, so of course, I had my dad drop me back off at the airport at 10:00... I had to check in and of course just to be a bit early.

So why did Eddie not check where to drop off the rental car before coming to LAX... I guess everyone in LA knows that the rental car places aren't actually at LAX... (hence tons of shuttles). Of course, I'm panicking, losing my mind and Eddie finally shows up to LAX 30 minutes before our flight. Lucky for us, we were flying on a weekday and there was no one else at security. We got on the flight just fine and made our way to YVR.

While in YVR, my friends decided to take us hiking at Stawamus Chief in his mini - cooper... no not the new mini Cooper... the Original mini-cooper... quite surprising how roomy it was. Ok, some random details... I am not holding onto anything at all... I'm surprised I did this... (so dumb of me), I have some shots that shows exactly how high we were in the air...

Eddie was of course scared of heights and didn't really near to the edge... well sorta, but he was laying down crawling towards it... lol maybe this was my way of saying... look its not scary at all!

There was even a squirrel up there... up almost ate out of my hands, cute little booger.

I remember the air being cold, being crisp, the sky very blue, very peaceful...

On the way down I sprained my ankle. yey.

Before I Die...

I'm not necessarily sure why I felt the need to write this blog at this instant moment, since I'm suppose to be reading or doing something productive in relation to school, but I was inspired after going through my old website and findings this article...

Wired published this article on an artist candy chang, where she posted a huge chalkboard that states, “before i die, i want to...________” (CLICK HERE) and people in the community would write the things they wanted to do.

Funny thing is I made a similar list a while ago and I'm surprised how many of them I've accomplished...

I...

> learned how to ride a bike and even participated in a race!
> visited 6 continents (1 more to go!)
> am grateful to have the opportunity to do the things I've done.

I would re-write my list... but I'll be actually doing some cool things in the next 2-3 months...

> Getting my 4th tattoo

My big fear is deep water... so in the near future... I want to get my scuba certification and dive... I want to take a month off and baby sit my nephew and my niece... I want to go on across the country bike ride and raise $$$ for a non-profit... I want to have everyone that I love at a big dinner party - where we can all eat and laugh...

I guess, I'm writing this blog to inspire YOU... it doesn't have to be something crazy adventurous, but plan something you've always wanted to do - Write it on a post-it & plan to do it in the next year. No matter how small or big, or crazy.

Yes - what do you want to do... not your husband or your wife, or your kids, or your friends...

What do you want to do before you die?

October - Monthly Challenge!

Alright! Today is October 1st and I am going to blog about my monthly challenge this month!

This month is probably one of the harder challenges I will be participating in...

Wait for it... Wait for it...

This month - I will get a 6 pack! Yes - I am going to focus all my excess energy in getting a 6 pack!

I know you guys know that I work out a lot... yes that is true... but then you also know I have no inhibitions when it comes to food (that's pretty much why I work out - to eat everything without guilt).

I think the hardest part of this challenge isn't the physical part of exercising, but changing my habits when it comes to food.

So... what's the first part?!

ha! Show you guys what I had for dinner last night?!? Yes, I had McD and it was soooo delicious. I ate every single fry and every single nugget and drank every single drop of the powerade (to offset the overdose in salt)

Yes - with 3 dipping sauces (guess which ones!?)

Showing you guys a before picture!! We're going to need to get a before and after kinda deal going on... so here's a picture (taken on my iMac - 2 minutes ago!) I'm in generally good shape from doing a lot of cardio - mostly cycling... in the near future - running will be incorporated into my workout and LOTS and LOTS and LOTS and LOTS of ABS...

Ok... well, the major component that I will have to change this month and hopefully a lifestyle change is my LOVE (j'adore) of fried foods and desserts! Its my Kryptonite... I can eat a half gallon of ice cream for dinner!

This month, I will be sharing recipes to help me lose fat... and if you want to join me... please do so! post in the comments below!

When it comes to anything in life, I don't believe in depriving myself of anything... I call it the binge effect... If you stop ice cream for a month without substituting it for anything, as soon as it is over you will eat ice cream... This is why I think most diets fail, it sets you up for failure... there is no balance...

So... speaking of balance... I will not be denying myself of sweets - merely replacing my appetite for sweet things with a healthier alternative...

My first dessert alternative!? Jello and whipped cream! Yes! (don't buy the sugar free one - there isn't a lot of sugar in JELLO) and not having sugar - you'll crave for other sweets!

Yup, pretty easy... I don't think I have to share how to make this... the nutritional value is great - compared to ice cream or cake... Don't skimp on the whipped cream as well - most of these only have little to no fat!

If you're going to make JELL-O make sure you make different flavors... You don't want to be bored! My favorite are Raspberry, Grape, and Orange!

What's new?!

Alright... what is new in my world?!

A couple of things, I'm quite excited about next month's monthly challenge... Stay tuned! It is going to be one of the most challenging (if not the most challenging - monthly challenge) that I will be challenging myself with. o_O

Other than that, school is school... presentations, readings and such... Though this semester is really interesting for me, especially my class in Medical Anthropology. I just feel the class speaking to me and the things I want to do in the future...

Oh yeah... I took the new format of the GRE and though its slightly different than the old version, I don't think it really changes anything. The new scores will not be released (for about 3 months) just to ensure enough scores are in the database to provide a more accurate "percentile" score. Yes, I like knowing I am better than a few people. lol

On Tuesday, I watched Lion King 3D - and to be honest, it was great seeing the movie again, but the 3D was really an additional novelty that was NOT needed at all! Here in Hawaii there is a $4 surcharge for all 3D movies and to be honest, I did not think the 3D effects were utilized to the maximum... or even at 50%. The commercials in 3D prior to the movie were more interesting.

2011 Honolulu Century Ride

Wow... its finally over... I'm still in disbelief. The longest I've cycled this training session was 65.54 miles (Click me for this run's stats) and with the accident last week Sunday (which is still not healed) I wasn't sure how I would do.

A special thank you for those who have supported me in this event. Particularly the individuals who donated to my cause - Leukemia and Lymphoma affects so many people and with the rising costs of healthcare - you have helped make people's lives a lot easier.

I've been asked - aren't the events you train for hard?? - in short, they are... but having to deal with chemotherapy is a lot harder - not having control of your future.

Another special thanks to individuals who helped me carb load yesterday. Eating a Manager's special (half Mizithra cheese and half meat sauce - the larger portion OF COURSE!) really helped me gain the fuel to help me with the race.

So... How did I do?! The event was more than I ask for. I went over my goal today. I was originally only expecting to do 75 miles and I went 82ish. =D

Please click here for the same data, but you can play around with the map and see mile per mile how I went about the race... (You'll be able to tell when I stopped by 7.11 - and if you're familiar with the map - you can tell me which one I stopped at!)

What did I learn from the race?

I learned many things...

First, I am truly blessed to have my health, I was surprised how fast, how far I've gone today. They said roughly 75% did the 25 and 50 miles - out of approximately 2,000 cyclists.

Group B

I learned a lot of technicalities of the race... the race was divided into 4 groups (A, B, C and D)... I went to the B group because I figured I was planning to do 75 miles. I should have done group A... I started the Runkeeper program when the shot went off - but it was only for Group A - Group B left the starting line about 15 minutes later (you'll see on the link that I took 15 minute pace for the 1st mile!)

One particular aspect of racing that people who don't race don't exactly understand the race day preparation. Two days before, I made sure all the equipment on my bike was up to par and also the supplemental gels, extra tube, CO2 cartridges, things to fix the bike with - etc).

The night before I lay out all of the equipment I will need - cycling gear, shoes, socks, ipod, phone, wallet...

Day off - today I woke up at 0355 - I hit the snooze once - then at 0405, I was up and ready to go... I had to make breakfast (eating breakfast at this time is not easy - my stomach no likey) - good for the road, gatorade mix... put on my gear and run out the door... I arrived at Kapiolani park around 0445 - which was perfect. I would free parking, I had time to check my bike (make sure the tires had the proper pressure, double check the gears, the aero bars - I had to tighten those)

This morning is training day... well the race is next week... The plan today was to ride for 85 miles... and unfortunately, I was a bit short of my training goal today by 20 miles...

Excuses, excuses... right?

My here are pictures for my first injury on the bike! Yippie! lol - yes, I know I'm small kine weird but to be honest, I am happy that its only my first accident in 2.5 years - meaning I learned how to ride a bike 2.5 years ago, not that I had an injury 2.5 years ago!

so... what happened?!?!

Well, I'm on my way to riding my 85 miles and I'm somewhere past Kaneohe on my way to Kualoa ranch and beyond. The conditions were not optimal - it was very windy, it had rained on and off...

No, I did not get hit by a car... It was witchcraft (I'm reading a little bit of E.E Evans Pritchard)

Actually, I had a bad case of the sniffles and the sneezes... and it was just weird actually... My nose had been dripping for about 20 miles - luckily I've learned snot rockets... and suddenly, I could not stop sneezing... and the road had a steep drop between the road and the small sidewalk, and I ate it going about 15 miles an hour...

The initial impact really knocked the wind out of me... then everything started to sting. Luckily, someone on the other lane stopped - told me to lay down and make sure to catch my breath - he also diverted traffic and moved my bike to the grassy sidewalk.

He was very nice... Asked me if I needed a ride, but I could tell he was in a rush - so I said no... A couple minutes later I composed myself and a pickup truck passed by and asked if I was ok and if I needed a ride... well, I said yes! - I <3 hitchhiking! He said he could drop me off in Kaneohe town and he would drive me to Kailua - but he needed to catch a flight, so I was dropped off at Safeway Kaneohe - I said my thanks and we parted ways...

After rechaining my bike, I decided to give it another go... I ended up riding about 4 miles until I was pretty much over it, my legs had some cramping and I'm sure the open wound did not help...

So, I started sticking my thumb out! Lucky me! Twice in a day! A pickup stopped and agreed to drop me off in Kailua - on Oneawa street! I rode my bike for about 10 minutes to my friends house where I've been dog-sitting for the weekend. I put my bike in my car and what's the first thing I do??!

Play with the dogs - of course! They've been locked up for 5 hours and its not their fault I had the sniffles! After that fed them, pet them and then I decided I needed to go to Longs to buy some essentials to patch up my injuries...

Needless to say, I am all bandaged up and besides my bum - I don't think anything else will bruise - well except my ego.. lol

Hair... Hair... Hair...

Hair... yes we all have it in some shape or form... I wanted to write this particular blog because I have met many people recently and I wanted to share some pictures of the transformation from short to long...

Why do I grow out my hair? I decided to grow out my hair one day so I can donate it. Donating hair is not an easy task - there are many stringent requirements - almost like blood donation! That main requirement is that you have to have virgin hair... meaning no dyeing of the hair, generally healthy, and it must be at least 10 inches from the ponytail... so you don't necessarily cut your hair from the longest place, you have to put a band on your hair and then snip...

So... let's start the slide show! These are the most pictures I've ever posted on 1 blog.. so just make sure you click if you want to make them bigger!

Lucky You Live Hawaii - Labor Day Edition...

There are many places in the world that can offer a wide variety of activities, food and culture... but none of them are like Hawaii...

This past weekend was such an awesome weekend that it epitomizes the saying - Lucky you live Hawaii...

Activities... well besides eating... I spent my weekend doing some pretty random things. I was in Kailua dog sitting 3 energetic handsome dogs... earlier this week, I also took a friend to eat her first Pho ever (can you believe that - gasp!!) Here she is... say hi Maya!

Friday night... was great... it was a night of wine-ing, dining and great food and company... Maura and I went to Sarento's atop the "I" - I've been lucky to eat here twice this year! We ended up at the restaurant from 1930 to 2300! Of course, I had the double stuffed pork chops - how can you go wrong with a pork chop stuffed with prosciutto!?

I went ice skating for the first time! Yes, seriously - ice skating... it was a celebration of Mr. Bobby's birthday and he was completely down for doing something different... he's quite a natural mover on the ice - me on the other hand needed the walker to get use to the movement with the ice skates... needless to say it was quite awesome! (more pictures coming soon!)

Sunday morning was just phenomenal...

I almost feel like I should write a separate blog for this... maybe I will! lol

If you would have told me 2 years ago that I would be riding 55 miles on a bike and going over heartbreak hill - I would have told you that you are crazy - well mostly because I didn't know how to ride a bike. I am so happy/surprised how far I have come... From learning how to ride my Walmart mountain bike at the Hawaii Kai Boat Parking Lot to quickly progressing to a hybrid bike to a road bike and now my first cycling event - with only 1 month to train! Crazy... but I feel that the word no is starting to leave my vocabulary...

What do you do on a day where you ride your bike for over 50 miles?! Well, besides complaining that everything is sore... you go to the beach of course!

Monthly Challenge - August

Monthly challenge... what is really about?!

Just a quick recap. I believe that there is always something about ourselves that we can work on... whether its physically, spiritually, mentally, emotionally and so forth... I think by creating a monthly challenge, it allows me to focus and conquer any fears, barriers that hopefully transition into a more permanent state.

This month, I am happy to say that I have given up smoking... Well at least completed my monthly challenge of not smoking... Some people have doubted me as I am an on and off smoker, and to be honest I don't consider myself having an addiction to smoking... if I want a cigarette, I will have one and not have one for months on end. However, this past March when I visited France... when people say, "when in ____, do as the ___ do," and that is sort of what I did, I smoked cigarettes with the French people and it carried over to an association with relieving stress...

I am back on my physical training and I think that is one aspect that has helped me kick the smoking habit... I've only been home 10 days and I've ridden over 130 miles (with my longest ride this past Sunday at 41 miles)...

So yes... I have this month, monthly challenge was a complete success... No more smoking cigarettes...

To be honest, I don't think it was that hard - for me personally, I think having a stubborn, driven personality really helps!

My new monthly challenge will be announced tomorrow and I am truly excited about September's challenge!

The L Word...

The L Word...

No, I'm not talking about that L word. No one wants to read about laundry - OR do you!? o_O

Alright, a quick quip about laundry - for those a bit interested in the topic and I'll get down to the proper L word of this blog... Lament, Lienculus... alright, I guess this will be my first blog about Love.

I can probably talk about everything in the grandspectrum of conversations - perhaps why the lienculus is to important (YES... open a new tab and google it - I'll wait...) or if you're debating if lament is a Harry Potter spell (sounds like it, doesn't it?!)

Well, I'm writing a blog and not a book so I guess I should start...

I'll start with a string of questions...
Have you ever met someone while traveling (or while they were traveling)?
Did you keep in touch even when you were back to your normal lives?
Did you ever meet again just to make sure it wasn't all in your head?
Does that person make you happy?

If you answered yes, yes, yes and yes. Then you're quite in a predicament.

What do you do then? Is a visit or two enough to create or sustain a relationship? Or how about a phone call every so often... Do you just accept the realities and realize it will never be?

I'm a big fan of living in the moment and understanding that the structure that is holding (preventing) one's self from doing the things they want to do is for the most part is the individual. There is also realities of occupation, geographical location, monetary restrictions, social obligations that prevent us from making the leap of faith. On the other side, there is also fear... what if things that we currently perceive is not the vision we had while you were apart?

I guess I'm somewhat babbling and I may have raised more questions than answers...

But I'll end on this note...

A friend for my birthday gave me a keychain that states... "Live the Life you Love"

Looks like I'll have to prioritize my life sooner than later.
